Good morning Wasteland Wanderers! Are you ready to start your virtual tour of the Experience Music Project Museum? I had set aside two hours of our itinerary for the museum, thinking that would be more than enough time to visit the handful of exhibits. Yeeeeah, I greatly underestimated how much there was to see.
On the way there, we passed the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation building. A fantastic quote, & one I wholeheartedly believe in:
EMP is housed in a building that is a 140,000 square foot piece of modern art.
Undulating in shades of red, gold, blue, & chrome, its surface is smooth & highly reflective (if you use Windows 8, in the desktop theme labeled Architecture there’s a photo of the Space Needle reflecting off a magenta & gold surface; that’s the EMP).
“EMP is a leading-edge, nonprofit museum, dedicated to the ideas and risk-taking that fuel contemporary popular culture.” If you love music, science fiction, fantasy, & pop culture, you need to spend a day at EMP. We had been there for three hours when we decided to scrap our other plans for the day (Pike’s Place Market) & really soak up the exhibits. We started on the top floor, which contain the Sound Lab, a sound stage where you can perform before a virtual audience, & Spectacle: The Music Video. If you want to take a gander at the exhibits, click on through.
